The distant call of much delayed travel and adventure launched my first foray into hosting. Back in 2010, my choices for renting out my home included Craigslist, VRBO, HomeAway, and Sabbatical Homes. I tried them all. I placed ads and found the first group of short term renters who would occupy our home while we traveled. Suddenly, I was immersed in a world of leases and addendums, procedures and home guides, and cleaning and purging excess clutter.
Since then, my husband and I have built a portfolio of 4 listings and we have turned our side hustle into a major source of income. We are 5 star Superhosts with an 85%+ occupancy rate and over 100 checkins per year. For each of our properties, our earnings pay all expenses and also allow us to build principle and additional income.
